Naturalization by Marriage to a Costa RicaN
For couples that were married in Costa Rica. The marriage would need to be recorded in the civil registry . They would also need to be living together in Costa Rica for a minimum of two years before applying for Costa Rican citizenship.
Naturalization by Residency
If you are a residency holder and have legally been residing in Costa Rica for 5 years (Central American , Spanish or Latin American by birth) 7 years for all other nationalities then you may choose to make an application for Costa Rican Citizenship.
Under this category of naturalization the applicant would need to have some understanding of Costa Rican Culture and values. The ability of being able to read and write Spanish would be required as well as taking a Citizenship test.
To apply for citizenship the application is done at the office of Naturalization of the Civil Registry.
